Pastor Chris Hodges began his ministry in 1984 as Youth Pastor with Pastor Larry Stockstill of Bethany World Prayer Center near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Two years later he met and married his wife Tammy, the daughter of pastor and missionary Billy Hornsby.

In 1987, Chris and Tammy moved to Colorado Springs to work with New Life Church, a young church planted by his former youth pastor. During his seven years there, Chris served as Youth Pastor and Senior Associate Pastor. Chris and Tammy experienced a modern-day city transformation as New Life Church grew from 400 to over 5,000 people.

Chris and Tammy returned to Baton Rouge in 1994 with their three children—Sarah, Michael, and David—to be Associate Pastor at Bethany World Prayer Center. Chris had a major influence in the Baton Rouge area as a District Cell Group Pastor, worship leader, and co-host of Lifeline, a daily television program. He also trained churches nationally through cell church seminars. Two more children—Jonathan and Joseph—were added to the family during their time in Baton Rouge.

This incredible ministry experience equipped Chris and his family for their greatest adventure ever: planting a new church in the Birmingham area. Chris and Tammy moved to Birmingham at the end of 2000 with the dream of building a life-giving church focused on the simplicity of the gospel and the power of an intimate relationship with a loving God. Church of the Highlands had its first service in February 2001, and the dream just keeps getting bigger! Even as amazing growth continues, Pastor Chris is committed to keeping Church of the Highlands a place where nothing gets in the way of people connecting with God.
